It begins.

This little project has been on my brain for months. You could even say years. Truth be told, I started a blog when I was living overseas a while back. How long did it last? Oh that's right, two days. :)

It was moving to Kentucky over five months ago that initially rekindled my interest in blogging. I miss my family, and a blog seemed like a good way to keep connected with people long distance. But every time I thought about starting one, I would get stuck trying to decide on a name. Names are really important to me, as are words in general. I desire for this blog to be an eclectic blend of posts on all the things I love most, enjoy thinking on, and want to share with you. And to think of one name that summarizes all of those things? Tough. How do you name a blog dedicated to random thoughts on God, family, life, decorating, cooking, crafting, coffee, books, seminary, etc.?

Enter..."Home to Haven." This simple little phrase was introduced to me by my husband a while back. I love it for several reasons. First, and most importantly, it reminds me of what I want my relationship with the Lord to look like. I want God to be my "resting place" in life, my refuge, my haven. To me, the word "haven" is a step beyond the word "home". A haven is the place you long to be, not just the place you are physically living. I want my life to revolve around pursuing Christ as my one and only Haven.

Secondly, I'm learning that I have a growing love for the home. By that I mean all things related to creating a "homey-home." My husband and I often talk about how we want our little apartment here in Kentucky to be not just a home, but a "haven." There's also a quote we love regarding marriage by Martin Luther that goes, "Let the wife make the husband glad to come home, and let him make her sorry to see him leave." I love this quote because I think it's also the description of a place that is more than just where you live, it's a place where you long to be in relationship with other people. Simply put, a haven is always a home, but a home is not always a haven.

"Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations.
Before the mountains where born or you brought forth the earth and the world,
from everlasting to everlasting, you are God." ~Ps. 90:1-2
