shirt + dress = a new dress!

A loooooong time ago, I bought this dress from Goodwill for like $5. Even though it was an extra small maternity dress (pretty sure I've NEVER been an extra small), I was planning to add some elastic to it and turn it into a skirt. But a few weeks ago I pulled it out and decided that, with a few changes, it would make a nice maternity dress.

Here's the dress before:

Here's a random brown shirt I had that I decided to use as the top half of the dress. It was $2.50 from a thrift store (please ignore my chalk markings):

And the finished dress:

I didn't use a pattern or really have a method to my madness. I just cut the bottom off of the shirt, cut the top off of the dress, and then sewed them together. I wasn't a big fan of the yellow trim so I cut it off and added a hot pink knit jersey I had laying around, and then made a belt out of the same material.

Total cost of project: $8.50. Can't beat that for a maternity dress!
